The rules of the road.

We want Tale Typer to feel like a service you chose to pay for, not one you're stuck with. These terms try to be as plain as we could make them. If anything is confusing, email us at hello@taletyper.com and we'll explain it.

• Parent accounts: You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter a contract.
• Child profiles: Created and supervised by a parent account holder. Designed for ages 8 and up. By adding a child profile you confirm you are that child's parent or legal guardian and consent to us collecting the data described in our Privacy Policy.
• One subscription supports one family. Up to 5 child profiles and 2 parent profiles on a Family plan.

Tale Typer is a paid subscription. The Family plan is $9.99 per month (or $89 per year) after a 7-day free trial.

• Starting a trial: We authorize a small charge on your card at trial start to verify you as a parent (COPPA's "credit-card transaction" consent method). That authorization refunds immediately and is not a charge.
• First real charge: Happens 7 days after trial start unless you've canceled. We email you 2 days before.
• Recurring charges: Auto-renew monthly (or annually) until you cancel.
• Canceling: One click from your parent dashboard. Access continues through the end of your current paid period.
• Refunds: We don't refund past billing periods. If you're charged within 48 hours after the trial ends and your kid hasn't played, email us and we'll refund that charge.
• Price changes: We'll email you at least 30 days before any price change takes effect on your subscription.

• Access for all child profiles under your family account to the typing lessons, cosmetics, story content, and any other features that are live at the time.
• A parent dashboard showing your kid's progress and coach's-note recommendations.
• Our commitment: no ads shown to your kid, no behavioral tracking for advertising, no sale of your family's data.

We add new lessons, chapters, and cosmetics over time. Existing content may change, be reworked, or occasionally be retired if it's not working pedagogically.

Common-sense rules, aimed at keeping the service safe for kids.

• Don't share your parent account password. If we suspect it's compromised, we may require you to reset it.
• Don't attempt to access other families' accounts, exploit the game, or interfere with our servers.
• Don't try to obtain content without paying for it (no scraping, no automated tools).
• Don't use the service for any purpose it isn't for — it's a kids' typing game.

If you break these rules we may suspend or terminate the account. If you're suspended in error, contact us.

Your family's gameplay data (progress, cosmetics unlocked, character appearance) belongs to your family. You can export it or delete it at any time — see our Privacy Policy.

Everything Tale Typer provides — the story prose, the character art, the lesson content, the code — is our intellectual property. You may not copy, redistribute, or build a competing product from it.

• We may change features, content, or pricing with reasonable notice. Material price changes require 30 days' notice by email.
• We may suspend the service briefly for maintenance.
• If we need to stop operating the service entirely, we'll give at least 30 days' notice and stop billing immediately.

Tale Typer is provided "as is." We work hard to keep it reliable, but we can't promise it will always be available or bug-free. To the extent permitted by law, Tale Typer's liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived by contract.

If you have a dispute with us, we'd rather hear about it and fix it than have a lawsuit. Email hello@taletyper.com first. If we can't work it out, these terms are governed by the laws of the state where Tale Typer is based, and any dispute is heard in the state or federal courts of that state.

We'll email every parent account at least 30 days before any material change to these terms takes effect. Minor edits (typo fixes) may happen without notice; the "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Continuing to use Tale Typer after a change means you accept the updated terms.
